WLC - Coaching and Mentoring: Unlock Your Potential

Coaching and Mentoring: Unlocking Potential to Maximize Growth

Interested in empowering other women?  At this month’s meeting, Cheryl Ricketts, Founder and Lead Coach for Competitive Edge HR, will lead a session on unlocking potential through coaching and mentoring.  Many people assume coaching and mentoring and interchangeable terms.  Both are powerful ways to expand a person’s abilities but are typically used for different developmental needs.

After the session, you’ll more fully understand the differences between mentoring and coaching and when it’s appropriate to use each. In addition, Cheryl will also review the coaching model she uses with clients and share tips that will improve your results as a coach.

Cheryl Ricketts
Founder and Lead Coach, Competitive Edge HR, Inc.

Energetic, Change Agent, and Impactful Leader: These three phrases are frequently used to describe today’s facilitator, Cheryl Ricketts. Cheryl is the founder and Lead Coach for Competitive Edge HR, a firm she initially started in 2001. After a five-year sabbatical to join a long-term client as VP Administration and CHRO, Cheryl returned to Competitive Edge in 2021 where her focus includes:
  • Resolving Board issues related to organizational dysfunction, a lack of teamwork, gaps in succession planning, and governance.
  • Partnering with executives and leaders who are struggling to deal with a lack of engagement, skills on their teams, or who realize a skill gap is limiting their long-term opportunities; and
  • Individuals who have lost their job due to a reduction in force or who struggle to get out of bed in the morning because their position doesn’t align with their passion, strengths, or priorities.
She brings over 35 years of diverse and progressive experience as an executive in both Sales and HR, coaching, consulting, innovation, and problem resolution with Executives and Boards of Directors to her work in these areas. She has impacted the success of organization across multiple industries including agribusiness, insurance, government, energy, and finance.

Cheryl was our 2018 Athena Leadership recipient because she believes in paying it forward and demonstrates her passion for people and organizations in Central Ohio. Currently she serves on boards for the Pickerington Education Foundation, the Pickerington Food Pantry, and as 2nd VP  and Executive Committee member for the Fairfield County Agricultural Society Board. She is excited to support women in the Ohio Prison Entrepreneurship Program to expand their resilience skills.
